Cute Baby Hats: Animal Style

Size: 4.5 mm-5.5mm hook
Material: 1 skein of Organic Pakucho Cotton (Worsted)
Description: A very open ended pattern to help make the basic shapes of a hat and ears. Please adjust to whatever suits your imagination and remember to mark your rounds for sanity’s sake :p

Start: Make a ring and sc 5 around => 5 sts

Behr hat, hdc stitch, 10 rounds
Behr hat, hdc stitch, 9 rounds

HAT/HEAD

Round 1 hdc 2 in each st around => 10 sts
Round 2 hdc 2 in each st around => 20 sts
Round 3 [hdc, hdc 2 in next st] 10 times => 30 sts

Round 4 [2 hdc, hdc 2 in next st] 10 times => 40 sts
Round 5 [3 hdc, hdc 2 in next st] 10 times => 50 sts
Round 6 hdc in each st around => 50 sts
Rounds 7-20 hdc as above… for last round(s) use sc stitch for finishing border, fasten off and weave in the extra yarn. Adjust total number of rounds according to baby’s size needs

EARS (2)

Round 1 make an adjustable ring and sc 5 around => 5 sts
Round 2 hdc 2 in each st around => 10 sts
Round 3 hdc 2 in each st around => 20 sts
Round 4 [hdc, hdc 2 in next st] 10 times => 30 sts
Rounds 5&6 hdc in each st around => 30 sts
Round 7 [hdc, hdc2tog] 10 times => 20 sts
Round 8 [hdc2tog] 10 times (or more if you want to make it a larger size) => 10 sts
Fasten off and using a length of remaining yarn to help bend to desired shape
